Three Famous Oregon Homes in Film!
A new documentary, The House From…, explores iconic homes featured in movies and TV shows, highlighting how they become famous landmarks that can either be a blessing or a burden for their owners. Among the homes featured, three are located in Oregon, and they each have their own unique stories.
The Goonies
First up is the Goonies house in Astoria, Oregon, which has become a pilgrimage site for fans since the film’s release in 1985. The home plays a pivotal role in the movie’s plot, where the kids try to save it from foreclosure after discovering a treasure map. Over the years, the original owner struggled with the constant influx of visitors, especially after the film’s 30th anniversary. In 2023, the house was sold to Behman Zakeri, a superfan who not only welcomes visitors but is actively restoring it as a landmark. His openness has sparked some tension with neighbors, though, leading to humorous “Goonies Welcome!” signs posted by Zakeri in response to a “Goonies Not Welcome” sign.

Twilight
Next, the documentary features the Twilight house in St. Helens, Oregon, which served as Bella Swan’s home in the 2008 film. After buying the house, Amber and Dean Neufeld felt a deep responsibility to preserve it, keeping the original design and offering it for rent to fans via a dedicated website.

Short Circuit
Finally, there’s the Short Circuit house in Astoria, where Richard Bates, a lifelong fan of the 1986 film, bought the property and spent years restoring it. Now, the house is available for rent on Airbnb for fellow Short Circuit enthusiasts.

All three homes are now cherished landmarks, offering visitors the chance to step into the worlds of their favorite films, thanks to the efforts of passionate owners who have turned these iconic residences into welcoming spaces for fans.
